The defeat marked Sri Lanka's 105th loss in T20Is, surpassing Bangladesh, who have 104 defeats. The West Indies and Zimbabwe are next on the list with 101 and 99 defeats, respectively.
In the third T20I, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl first. India delivered a team performance in the first innings, with all batters contributing to setting a competitive target. Shubman Gill was the top scorer for India, making 39 runs from 37 balls, including three fours. Riyan Parag added 26 runs from 18 balls, hitting one four and two sixes, while Washington Sundar made 25 runs from 18 balls with two fours and one six. India concluded their innings at 137/9 after 20 overs.
Maheesh Theekshana led the Sri Lankan bowling attack with a commendable performance, bagging three wickets for 28 runs in his four-over spell. Wanindu Hasaranga also contributed by picking up two wickets and conceding 29 runs.
In their run chase, Sri Lanka's Kusal Perera scored 46 runs from 34 balls, with five fours, and Kusal Mendis added 43 runs from 41 balls, hitting three fours. These efforts, supported by opener Pathum Nissanka's 26 runs from 27 balls with five fours, helped Sri Lanka reach 137/8, taking the match into a super over.
The highlight of the match was Rinku Singh and skipper Suryakumar Yadav each taking two wickets in their spells. In a critical moment, the Indian skipper defended six runs in the final over, forcing the game into a super over. Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar also took two wickets each in their respective spells.
In the super over, Sri Lanka managed to score just 2/2 while batting first. During India’s chase, Suryakumar Yadav ended the match with the first ball, driving a sweep towards short fine leg for a four.
Washington Sundar was named the Player of the Match for his all-round performance. Suryakumar Yadav was awarded the Player of the Series title.
