THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The largest Indoor stadium in south India is coming up at Mundayad in Kannur district of Kerala as part of the 35th edition of the National Games, to be held in the state next year.

The 2,600 sq.ft. stadium, which can accommodate 3,000 spectators, is scheduled to host the basketball and wrestling competitions during the much-awaited multi-sporting event, an official release said here today.

The indoor stadium has been built at a cost of Rs 23.5 crore by National Games Secretariat on 16.2 acres of land, owned by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs under the state government, it said.

Post Games, this fully air conditioned indoor stadium of international standard will be a boon for sports enthusiasts and professionals from Malabar (north Kerala). It would facilitate the region's finest training grounds for different sporting disciplines, the release added.

The National Games are scheduled to be held in different venues across Kerala from January 31 to February 14 next year.
