The world's number one tennis player secured a straight-sets win, 6-4, 6-4, against Britain's Cameron Norrie. However, the disruption continued during Djokovic's post-match interview as some British fans began drumming. Djokovic addressed the situation head-on, admonishing the fans, "Learn how to respect players, learn how to behave yourself," and when the noise persisted, he retorted, "No, you shut up, you be quiet."
Having clinched 24 Grand Slam titles, Djokovic characterized the vibrant atmosphere as customary for Davis Cup matches. Yet, he highlighted that some supporters attempted to overshadow his victory speech with their drumming, prompting him to directly confront their behavior.
"There was disrespect throughout the match, but that's something I have to be ready for in the Davis Cup," Djokovic explained to the press, justifying his reaction. "It's common for fans to cross the line, and in those intense moments, you sometimes respond to show that such behavior is not acceptable. They can do what they want, but I will react accordingly," he stated.
Leon Smith, the captain of the Great Britain team, opted not to reprimand the fans. Instead, he praised the lively atmosphere they contributed to the event. While acknowledging a few potentially excessive remarks, Smith didn't perceive the overall atmosphere as overly negative. He expressed a preference for an enthusiastic crowd, a sentiment often lacking in tennis.
