Shubman Gill and his father Lakhwinder Singh
After that historic knock by Indian Test skipper Shubman Gill, cricket fans couldn't stop praising him for his historic 269-run knock against England in the 2nd Test.

But for Gill, 25, praise from his father matters the most, because he says that it is because of his dad that he started playing cricket in the first place.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday shared a wholesome video of Shubman Gill’s day out at Edgbaston on Thursday during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Gill was seen interacting with fans, media and people from the fraternity, but what stood out was a special audio message from his parents Lakhwinder Singh and Keart Gill.

It was not just Gill's highest score but also the chart-topper for Indians in Tests outside Asia and for Indian captains, ever. While Lakhwinder was proud of his son’s marathon knock he also reminded Gill that the skipper missed the chance to score a triple-century, what maybe a typical Indian dad moment.

“Shubman beta, well played. I really enjoyed watching your batting. It gave me a lot of peace of mind. When you were younger, under 16 or 19, you used to bat like that. And I felt very proud," Lakhwinder can be heard saying in the video via Gill’s phone.

In a heartfelt message, Keart expressed his admiration for Gill's performance: “It was very nice to see your batting. Keep going. God bless you." Gill responded, highlighting the significance of the encouragement, particularly since he began playing cricket for his father.

“I went to the pool for some recovery, came back, and showered… This message means a lot to me," he said.

“I think growing up, I played almost all of my cricket for my dad. In the sense that it was because of him that I started playing cricket. And the only person, he and my best friend, whom I practiced with. These are the only two people, when it comes to my cricket, that I care about and that I listen to. So, it means a lot coming from him. But he did also tell me that I missed my triple century. Hopefully, we will end this match on a great note," he added with a smile.

Gill's impressive innings contributed to India reaching 587/10 in their first innings, while England ended the day at 77/3.
