As the ICC Champions Trophy reaches its climax, former champions New Zealand and South Africa are poised to clash in what promises to be an exhilarating semifinal on March 5. Both teams, having tasted success in the tournament in the late 1990s, are eager to break their recent title drought and secure a spot in the final.

Despite their historical achievements, both teams have encountered challenges in major ICC tournaments in recent years. New Zealand has been a consistent contender, finishing as runners-up in the last two ODI World Cups (2015, 2019) and the T20 World Cup (2021).

Under the captaincy of Mitchell Santner, they secured second place in Group A, showcasing resilience and tactical prowess, particularly highlighted in a recent tri-series victory over South Africa.

Conversely, South Africa has been aiming to shake off their reputation for faltering in crucial matches. They topped Group B with a strong performance, demonstrating depth and talent across both batting and bowling departments.

However, their recent record in one-day internationals has been marred by a series of losses, adding an element of unpredictability to their semifinal prospects.

SA vs NZ: Weather in Lahore

The weather forecast for the semifinal is promising, with players set to enjoy ideal conditions. The day is expected to be sunny, with a high of 24°C and no rain interruptions. The northwest wind, blowing at 17 km/h with gusts up to 41 km/h, may influence swing bowling slightly. As the evening approaches, temperatures will cool to around 10°C, accompanied by clear skies and a light breeze of 9 km/h.
