Rohit Sharma crosses 16,000 international runs as opener during India's chase against Afghanistan

India batter Rohit Sharma reached a major milestone in international cricket by surpassing 16,000 international runs as an opener during India's first ODI against Afghanistan in Dharamshala.

The landmark came in a rain-affected contest that was reduced to 25 overs per side. Rohit achieved the feat when he hit Afghanistan's Azmatullah Omarzai for a six over square leg before his innings ended with a run-out on 16 runs.

Rohit brought up the milestone in style, pulling a back-of-a-length delivery from Omarzai over the square-leg boundary for a maximum. The six took him past the 16,000-run mark as an opener in international cricket.


Earlier, Afghanistan posted 193, setting India a target of 194 in the rain-shortened match. Despite Rohit's early departure, India remained well placed in the chase and appeared on course for a comfortable victory.

The milestone was recorded during India's opening ODI against Afghanistan in Dharamshala. Persistent rain led to the match being reduced to 25 overs per side.

Although Rohit's stay at the crease was brief, the former India captain managed to add another significant achievement to his career before being run out for 16.
