Pant reached his sixth Test century on Saturday, tying Dhoni for the most centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper-batsman. Starting the second innings at 12 not out, Pant achieved this milestone in 124 balls. He was later dismissed for 109 runs, caught and bowled by Mehidy Hasan Miraz while aiming for quicker runs.
Pant’s achievement came during a significant 162-run partnership with Shubman Gill, who was on 88 runs when Pant was dismissed. Pant’s innings, which included 13 fours and 4 sixes, helped extend India's lead to 461 runs. Earlier, India decided not to enforce the follow-on after Bangladesh scored 149 runs, with Jasprit Bumrah taking four wickets.
In the first innings, India posted a total of 376 runs, with notable performances from Ravichandran Ashwin, who made 113 runs, and Ravindra Jadeja, who scored 86.
India had dominated the first innings too, largely thanks to Jasprit Bumrah, who took 4 for 50 and helped bowl Bangladesh out for 149. Despite efforts from players like Shakib (32) and Litton Das (22), Bangladesh struggled to compete with India's first-innings score of 376.
In the second innings, India declared at 287-4, with a lead of 514. Gill also scored century in the match.
