Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has added another milestone to his illustrious career, surpassing Sunil Narine to become the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Ashwin achieved this feat during Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, when he dismissed Devdutt Padikkal to take his IPL wicket tally to 182.

Ashwin, who made a high-profile return to CSK after a decade for ₹9.75 crore in IPL 2025, now sits ahead of Narine, who has 181 wickets in the tournament.

Ashwin’s IPL Legacy

Ashwin, who played a key role in CSK’s title-winning campaigns in 2010 and 2011, has evolved into one of the most reliable spinners in the IPL. Across 214 matches, he has taken 182 wickets at an average of 29.79 and an economy rate of 7.13. His ability to control the game in the middle overs remains a valuable asset for any team he represents.

Ashwin’s performance in CSK vs RCB clash

The off-spinner had a mixed outing in the match, conceding 14 runs in his first over, including two boundaries and a six by Phil Salt. However, he bounced back strongly, dismissing Padikkal, who had been striking the ball fluently for 27 off 14 balls. The crucial breakthrough came via a sharp catch by CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, further solidifying Ashwin's role in the side.

However, CSK struggled to contain RCB's batting firepower, with Noor Ahmad (3/36) emerging as the standout bowler. Matheesha Pathirana (2/39), Ashwin (1/34), and Khaleel Ahmed (1/41) also chipped in with wickets. They lost the match by a whopping 15 runs, handing RCB their first win at Chepauk since 2008.
