Railways offer cash, promotion for winning medals at Rio

NEW DELHI: With the aim to motivate players to deliver their best in Rio Olympic and win medals, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu today announced a bouquet of incentives for the Railway players such as promotions, increments and cash awards.

35 Indian Railway sportspersons will represent the nation in ongoing XXXI Olympic Games at Rio, Brazil from August 5-21.

Accordingly a sportsperson winning a gold medal will get Rs 1 crore while Rs 75 lakh and Rs 50 lakh will be given for bagging silver and bronze medal respectively.

Railway sportsperson reaching upto 8th position will get Rs 30 lakh and for participation he or she will be given Rs 5 lakh.

Prabhu along with Ministers of State for Railways Manoj Sinha and Rajen Gohain and on behalf of entire railway family have conveyed their best wishes to the Indian contingent at Rio Olympics to bring greater glory to the nation.
