Social media users react to viral video of Rachin Ravindra, say New Zealand cricketer is truly an Indian at heart

Rachin Ravindra's video during the award ceremony from Champions Trophy has gone viral as it claims that he is truly an Indian at heart.

During the runner-up prize distribution, a social media user observes that only Ravindra checked what was inside the box, while his team mates were least concerned about it after losing the Champions Trophy 2025 final against India.

The video now has over a million likes and people have hilarious comments on the post.


“He is looking because he is young. It's the first time he has been in the final. He doesn't know what is actually in those Runner up awards,” wrote one user.

“He dismissed Rohit Sharma so that nobody doubted him,” quipped another user.

“He’s checking if there’s really a medal or not,” commented another.


Ravindra was awarded the player of the tournament award for his 263 runs in four innings at an average of 68.75 and a strike rate of 106. He smashed two centuries, including two centuries and a highest score of 112 against Bangladesh.

He also took 3 wickets, including that of a dangerous-looking Rohit Sharma in the final. He also took a stunning catch to dismiss Shreyas Iyer.

Rachin Ravindra's Indian roots

Ravindra was born in Wellington, New Zealand, to parents of Indian origin from Bengaluru. His father, Ravi Krishnamurthy, a software architect, moved to New Zealand in 1997.

There was a massive rumour when Ravindra entered the international scene that his name was a mix of Indian cricket legends Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. While his father acknowledged the coincidence, he clarified that the name was chosen simply because it sounded pleasant and was easy to spell.

“When Rachin was born, my wife suggested the name, and we didn’t spend a lot of time discussing it. The name sounded good, was easy to spell, and short, so we decided to go with it. It was only some years later that we realised the name was a mix of Rahul and Sachin’s names. He wasn’t named with the intention to make our child a cricketer or anything of the sort," his father had clarified.
