In a groundbreaking achievement for Indian chess, three players have secured spots in the world's top ten in the FIDE Rating list for July 2024. Arjun Erigaisi now holds the prestigious position of World no.4, followed closely by D Gukesh at World no.7 and R Praggnanandhaa at World no.8. This marks the first time in history that three Indian players have simultaneously entered the top echelons of global chess rankings.

Nitin Narang, AICF President, celebrated this historic achievement, stating, "Historic moment for Indian chess as, for the first time ever, three Indians are in the world’s top 10 rankings as per the July 2024 FIDE rating list! @ArjunErigaisi #4, @DGukesh #7, and @rpragchess #8. Aravindh Chithambaram Soars, Becomes World no.29
Adding to the triumph, Aravindh Chithambaram has made a remarkable ascent to World no.29, gaining 18.5 Elo rating points. His impressive performance continues to elevate him within both national and international standings, solidifying his position as one of India's top chess talents.

Further Indian Presence in Global Rankings
The latest FIDE list showcases India's growing dominance in chess, with a notable presence across various rankings. Currently, there are four Indians in the top 11, five in the top 22, six in the top 29, seven in the top 37, and eight in the top 46 worldwide. This widespread representation underscores India's emergence as a powerhouse in the global chess arena.

Women Players Achieve Milestones
In the women's category, Indian players have also demonstrated exceptional prowess. GM Harika Dronavalli has reclaimed her position as India's no.2 player, showcasing resilience and skill in her recent performances. IM Divya Deshmukh's outstanding victory at the FIDE World Junior Girls Championship 2024 has propelled her to World no.20, marking a significant jump from her previous rank of 24. Additionally, IM Bhakti Kulkarni's advancement to 80th place, up from 88th, reflects the depth of talent among Indian women chess players.
