PV Sindhu sets social media abuzz

NEW DELHI: PV Sindhu lost out to Carolina Marin in the women's badminton's final in Rio 2016, but she has beaten the Spaniard hands down on Twitter. Sindhu's account @PVSindhu1 overtook @Caro_Marin2 in the last three days on Twitter on the follower count. Her following on Twitter grew three times (100,000 followers) between the semi-final and final, the fastest ever for any Indian athlete in a two day span.

Carolina marin (@Caro_Marin2) has around 94,000 followers on Twitter compared to Sindhu, who now has around 170,000 followers on Twitter.

There were? more than 630,000 Tweets for the final, even more than the India-Bangladesh match at the ICC World T20 earlier this year.

Aneesh Madani, head of sports partnerships at Twitter India said:

Virat Kohli, Narendra Modi, Abhinav Bindra, Rajnikanth were among those tweeting about Sindhu's historic feat on Twitter.

Sakshi Malik and Deepa Karmakar's performance generated about 230,000 and 140,000 tweets respectively.
