President Pranab Mukherjee congratulates Sania Mirza on US Open triumph

NEW DELHI: President Pranab Mukherjee today congratulated Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and her Swiss partner Martina Hingis on winning the US Open women's doubles title in New York.

"Hearty congratulations @MirzaSania @mhingis on winning the U.S. Open women's doubles, well done!" the President tweeted.

Sania triumphed in the US Open women's doubles with Hingis yesterday as the top-seeded Indo-Swiss team outplayed the fourth seed team of Casey Dellacqua and Yaroslava Shvedova 6-3 6-3 in the final.

This was Sania's second consecutive Grand Slam title of the season and fifth overall.

Sania's win capped off a memorable US Open for Indians as Leander Paes had won the mixed doubles trophy with Hingis on Friday, in a repeat show of the Wimbledon.
