As Chennai Super Kings fight to stay alive in the IPL 2026 amid a difficult season, they handed bowler Prashant Veer an opportunity in their clash against Mumbai Indians.

An uncapped left-arm spinner who can also contribute valuable runs down the order, Prashant entered the auction with a modest base price of ₹30 lakh. However, his recent exploits ensured heavy interest from several franchises, triggering an aggressive contest before CSK finally sealed the deal. He was brought by the CSK for Rs 14.2 crore.

Uttar Pradesh all-rounder Prashant Veer’s price soared 47.3 times his base value after CSK fought off early interest from Rajasthan Royals and a late, intense challenge from Sunrisers Hyderabad to secure the 20-year-old left-arm spinner and middle-order batter.

Veer, who made his IPL debut, first caught attention while representing Noida Super Kings in the UP T20 League and has since built an impressive domestic record. In 12 T20 matches, he has scored 112 runs at a strike rate of 167.16 and taken 12 wickets in nine innings at an economy of 6.45. His strong showing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy further boosted his credentials, with CSK viewing him as a long-term successor to Ravindra Jadeja.

Why CSK brought Veer for Rs 14 crore

Veer first made headlines while playing for Noida Super Kings in the UP T20 League. Over a gruelling seven-day stretch, he appeared in six matches across the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Uttar Pradesh’s Under‑23 fixtures, scoring 112 runs at a strike rate of 170 and claiming nine wickets at an economical 6.76.

CSK’s interest in Veer has been strategic. With Ravindra Jadeja’s departure leaving a gap in the squad, the franchise has been seeking a domestic all‑rounder capable of filling that balance. Veer’s left‑arm spin, combined with his lower‑order hitting prowess, made him an ideal candidate. Trials and close monitoring by CSK evidently paid off, as the young star is now set to become a key piece in their long-term plans.
