Watch: PM Modi interacts with Tokyo-bound Indian athletes
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed the confidence that the Indian contingent to the Tokyo Olympics will bring laurels to the country as this is the first time that such a large number of sportspersons have qualified in various events and the government has provided them the best training and equipment in the last few years.

The Prime Minister held a virtual interaction with the sportspersons who will represent India at the forthcoming Olympics. He discussed their personal challenges and background and encouraged them to give their best without coming under any pressure of the expectations the country has from them.

Modi underlined that in the last six years, a lot of effort has been made by the government to provide better training camps and equipment to the sportspersons. “Today, more international exposure is also being provided to the players. So many changes have happened in such a short time as sports related institutions have given priority to suggestions by the sportspersons,” he said.

The Prime Minister also lauded the role played by campaigns like ‘Fit India’ and ‘Khelo India’ and said there are many sports in which India has qualified for the first time.

He remarked that the pandemic has changed their practice and even the year of the Olympics. People can login to the NaMo app and cheer for their sportspersons through #Cheer4India, he said.

“The wishes of 135 crore Indians are the blessings of the country for all of you before entering the field of sports,” the Prime Minister said.
