Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates 38th National Games in Dehradun
The 38th edition of the national games began in Uttarakhand on Tuesday evening with the official announcement made by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a colourful function in Dehradun on Tuesday evening.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony organized at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun, PM Modi said that Devbhoomi (as Uttarakhand is referred to) has become even more divine today with the youth energy following the beginning of the National Games with the blessings of Baba Kedar, Badrinath, and Maa Ganga.

Referring to the entry of Uttarakhand in its 25th year of the formation, thousands of youths from different parts of the country are going to show their strength in this young state. This reflects a beautiful picture of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” here.

PM Modi further said that many sports competitions are being organized throughout the year in the country now. Besides, many new tournaments have been added to “the Khelo India” series. The Khelo India Youth Games have provided fresh opportunities to the young players to grow in their career. Similarly, opportunities for the players are available due to University Games and Paralympic Games.

He also recalled that just a few days ago, the fifth edition of Khelo India Winter Games had started in Ladakh. Beach Games were also organized last year. Along with the government, BJP MPs are also promoting sports talents from the MP funds. Giving the example of his own parliamentary constituency, the Prime Minister said that in the sports competitions being organized in Varanasi parliamentary constituency alone, about two and a half lakh youth are getting a chance to play every year.

PM Modi said the government is moving forward by connecting sports with development. He said that India is becoming the third largest economic power in the world and the sports economy is also going to make an important contribution to it. Not only players but also the supporting staff and manufacturers are involved in this. He said that India is becoming a hub of sports material production. There are more than 35 thousand sports material manufacturing units in Meerut alone, where three lakh people are working.
