Phillip Hughes' death: Players who passed away due to on-field injuries

Phillip Hughes, the Australia Test batsman struck on the head by a ball two days ago, died after succumbing to a serious head injury.

Here are other players who passed away due to on-field injuries:-



Raman Lamba, (India, 38) – 1998

Lamba was a former Indian player. While fielding during a club match in Dhaka, he injured his head and went into coma three days later, before being pronounced dead.

Ian Folley, (England, 30) - 1993

Folley was hit by the ball below the eye while batting during a domestic game and suffered a fatal heart attack in the hospital.

Wilf Slack, (England, 34) - 1989

Slack had suffered 4 blackouts in previous matches before he collapsed & died during a domestic tie in Gambia.

Abdul Aziz, (Pakistan, 18) - 1959

During a domestic match in Karachi, Aziz was hit on the chest while batting. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

George Summers, (England, 25) - 1870

While batting, Summers was struck on the head but did not take a treatment. He passed away at home four days later.

Darryn Randall, (South Africa, 32) - 2013

Randall was hit on the side of the head while trying to play a pull shot in a South African domestic tie. He collapsed and was immediately rushed to hospital. but died from the blow.

Richard Beaumont, (England, 33) - 2012

He died of a suspected heart attack on the field.

Zulfiqar Bhatti, (Pakistan, 22) - 2013

During a domestic tie, Bhatti was struck in the chest by the ball while batting. He fell on the ground and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

Wasim Raja, (Pakistan, 54) -2006

The Pak cricketer died of a heart attack when playing an Over-50 game in England.
