Missing out on gold, the Indian men’s hockey team lost 2-3 against world champions Germany in the Paris 2024 Olympics semi-finals on Tuesday.

Despite missing penalties, the team led by Harmanpreet Singh scored the first goal of the match in the first quarter against the German rival who failed to score a goal. After trailing in first quarter, however, Germany showed their dominance by turned things around and scoring two goals against India.

In the third quarter, India was seen making a comeback by tying the score with Germany at 2-2. In the final quarter, however, Germany again won the field by scoring another goal against the Indian team which sealed the former's victory and road ahead to the finals against the Netherlands.


The Indian team had earlier impressed by overcoming a quarter-final challenge against Great Britain despite being down to 10 men.

In their last match on Sunday, India secured a victory over Great Britain to advance to the Paris Olympics semifinals, despite playing with only 10 players for more than 40 minutes. Amit Rohidas received a red card for an alleged intentional attempt to injure British forward Will Calnan by striking his face with his hockey stick.

India vs Germany: A history

India and Germany had previously faced off 18 times, with India leading 8-6 and four matches ending in draws. India has scored 41 goals to Germany's 37.

A notable recent clash was the Bronze medal match at the Tokyo Olympics, where India won 5-4 thanks to a crucial final-minute save by Sreejesh.

In their last six encounters, India has won five, although Germany edged out India 3-2 in their most recent FIH Pro League match.
