Paralympics 2024 Opening Ceremony Live Telecast: Date, time, and all other details

Following a successful Paris Olympics, the Paris 2024 Paralympics is set to commence with a grand opening ceremony on Wednesday. The event will feature 184 delegations, including India.

The 17th edition of the Paralympic Games, starting on August 28, will begin with an opening ceremony at Place de la Concorde and the Champs-Elysées. This event will host 4,400 Paralympic athletes.

Like the July ceremony, Paralympics opening event will once again unfold outside a traditional stadium setting, with athletes parading along the famous avenue and culminating in a grand celebration and the official opening of the Paralympic Games at the iconic square, all in front of thousands of spectators.

The event will also have an audience of 15,000 spectators.

For India, Sumit Antil and Bhagyashri Jadhav will serve as flag-bearers. Meanwhile, India’s campaign will commence on August 29 in para badminton, featuring Krishna Nagar, who will be defending his men’s singles title.

Thomas Jolly, the director of Paris ceremonies, has hired the renowned Swedish choreographer Alexander Ekman to revolutionize the Paralympic ceremony.

Ekman, celebrated for his innovative work like the 2016 Swan Lake in Oslo—where he famously created a stage lake using 6,000 liters of water—will bring dance to the forefront of the event. His performance will feature over 150 dancers, including specially-abled performers, all moving to newly composed music by Victor Le Masne.

Adding to the excitement, legendary Chinese martial artist and actor Jackie Chan is rumored to carry the Paralympic torch just hours before the ceremony begins, as per media reports.

The flame, which was ignited on Saturday, August 24, in Stoke Mandeville—the birthplace of the Paralympic Games—arrived in France on Sunday. It made its journey through the Channel Tunnel, with wheelchair fencing medallist Emmanuelle Assmann among the torchbearers.
