'Oye, hero nahi banne ka': Rohit Sharma warns Sarfaraz Khan, rebukes him for ignoring personal safety

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is one of those cricketers who never really minces their words, especially on the field. Every now and then, stump-mic catches the words which are spoken by him; sometimes they evoke humour and also catch the attention of everyone. On the third day of the ongoing Ranchi Test against England, Rohit Sharma was at his very best when he scolded teammate Sarfaraz Khan for ignoring personal safety. Khan was fielding at silly point, which is very close to the batsman and considered a risky position as the fielder doesn't get much time to react to a shot. Over the years, it has become imperative for players to wear helmets for safety while standing in this risky position.

It all happened when Rohit Sharma called Sarfaraz from the deep to field at the silly mid-off position. The enthusiastic young man immediately took the position without wearing the helment, but Rohit inervened in time. Sarafaraz's silly act earned the ire of his captain, as he quickly walked to him and warned him about the grave mistake that could prove costly.

"Oye, hero nahi banne ka," Rohit said in a saracastic tone. Since being shared, the short clip on the incident has gone viral, and even the Delhi Police have also used it to spread awareness on the importance of wearing a helmet while driving.


While commenting on the video, former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik who is on the commentary team for the ongoing Ranchi Test, could be heard saying, "You could hear Rohit saying, 'Oye, hero nahi banne ka'. Very Rohit Sharma style to say it. Not the usual way here. No need to be a hero, wait for your helmet here. When you're fielding at that position, no risks please. Get that helmet on. Even the umpire letting Sarfaraz know that," Karthik said.

India in a commanding position:

India is looking in a comfortable position to win the series tomorrow as the hosts have already scored 40/0 with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal batting on 24 and 16 respectively. India still need 152 runs to win the series and Ranchi Test.

Earlier, Ashwin's 5/51 and Kuldeep Yadav's 4/22 helped India dismiss England for 145 in the second innings and got a 192-run target to win the match. India, already leading the series 2-1 and now England need to pull off a miracle to earn the equaliser.
