Two bronzes in three days! Parul Chaudhary shines again at Asian Games 2026, finishes third in 5000m after 3000m steeplechase podium

Indian athlete Parul Chaudhary won her second bronze medal in three days at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, finishing third in the women’s 5000m final on Monday with a time of 15:14.61, according to the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).

Parul Chaudhary wins bronze in women’s 5000m

Parul produced a determined performance in the 5000m final and fought until the finish line to secure a place on the podium. She finished 1.46 seconds behind Japan’s Nozomi Tanaka, who won silver with a time of 15:11.65.

Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi took the gold medal after clocking 15:10.18.

Second Asian Games bronze for Parul in three days

The 5000m bronze came a day after Parul finished third in the women’s 3000m steeplechase. She clocked 9:08.67 in that event to win bronze and set a new national record.

Parul’s Aichi-Nagoya campaign began with the women’s 1500m final on September 26, where she finished fourth with a time of 4:09.46. She returned to the podium the following day with bronze in the 3000m steeplechase before adding another bronze in the 5000m on Monday.

Parul Chaudhary completes three finals in three days

Parul competed in three finals on three consecutive days at the Asian Games. She finished fourth in the 1500m before winning bronze medals in the 3000m steeplechase and 5000m.

Her latest podium finish adds another medal to India’s athletics tally at the continental event and caps a busy three-day stretch for the Indian runner.

India’s athletics medal tally gets another boost

Parul’s latest bronze takes India’s overall medal tally to 42 at the Asian Games, comprising four gold, 18 silver and 20 bronze medals. India is currently placed 12th in the medal standings, while athletics has contributed 16 medals to the country’s tally.

Earlier on Monday, Vithya Ramraj won bronze in the women’s 400m hurdles with a personal best of 54.75 seconds, breaking the national record she shared with PT Usha.

Gulveer Singh also claimed his second silver medal of the Games, finishing runner-up in the men’s 1500m with a personal best of 3:36.72. Japan’s Kazuto Iizawa won gold and set a Games record.
