Rishikanta Singh wins silver in men's 60kg weightlifting at Commonwealth Games

India's Rishikanta Singh delivered a superb performance to clinch the silver medal in the men's 60kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games on Sunday, adding another podium finish to the country's medal tally.

The lifter from Manipur recorded a combined lift of 264kg to finish second behind Malaysia's Mohammad Aniq, who claimed the gold medal after edging past the Indian.

Rishikanta made a sensational start to the competition, lifting 121kg in the snatch to set a new Commonwealth Games record and take the lead. Malaysia's Aniq later matched the mark, leaving the contest to be decided in the clean and jerk.

The Indian successfully lifted 143kg on his opening clean and jerk attempt but failed to improve on his next two attempts. His total of 264kg nevertheless proved enough to secure the silver medal.

The result continues Rishikanta's impressive rise on the international stage. The weightlifter from Imphal West entered the Games as the reigning Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships gold medallist, having won the 60kg title in Ahmedabad in 2025.

He lived up to expectations in Glasgow with a composed display, showcasing his strength in the snatch before holding on for a place on the podium against a strong field.
