Jaismine Lamboria wins gold in women's 57kg boxing at Commonwealth Games 2026

Indian boxer Jaismine Lamboria clinched the gold medal in the women's 57kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2026, defeating Northern Ireland's Michaela Walsh in the final on Saturday.

Jaismine took the first round by a split verdict after a close contest with both boxers challenging each other. However, Jaismine won the second round by a unanimous verdict, having landed some hard blows on her opponents. The reigning world champion had booked her place in the final a day earlier with a dominant RSC win over Lesotho's Rapelang Maselela in the semi-final, a result that had already assured India of at least a silver medal in the category.

Speaking after her semi-final win on Friday, Lamboria had said she was determined to go all the way. "I'll try my best to win a gold medal for the country. I have to give 100 per cent. I want to showcase here the preparation we've done," she had said.

She backed those words up in the final against Walsh to complete her campaign in Glasgow with gold.

This adds to Lamboria's growing list of achievements — the Bhiwani-born boxer is also the reigning world champion in the category, having won gold at the 2025 World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, and had earlier claimed a bronze medal at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Earlier in the day, Preeti Pawar had opened India's boxing gold rush, beating Canada's Scarlett Savannah Delgado by unanimous decision in the women's 54kg final. The 22-year-old was in control from the start, with all five judges scoring the opening round 10-8 in her favour, and she carried that dominance through to the final bell.

Mandengbam Jadumani Singh also added a silver, going down to Australia's Jye Dixon in the men's 55kg final.

India's boxing contingent has had a landmark campaign in Glasgow, with ten boxers reaching gold medal bouts after an unbeaten run through the semi-finals, guaranteeing the country at least ten silver medals in the sport.
