Glasgow restaurant to correct India map after Lovlina flags Northeast omission, says BFI chief

On Sunday, Ajay Singh, the president of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), revealed that an Indian eatery located in Glasgow promised to amend a map of India that was wrongly displayed on its premises. This occurred after boxer Lovlina Borgohain highlighted the absence of Northeast India in the map.

Singh stated that there was "no confrontation" with the restaurant owners during the celebratory dinner of the team that brought home 10 boxing medals, which included seven gold and three silver medals at the ongoing Commonwealth Games.

"There was no confrontation. It was an aberration and we pointed that out, me and Lovlina. They accepted their mistake and assured us that it will be corrected," Singh told PTI.

It was reported that the Indian contingent visited ‘Mister Singh's India, The Home of Curry’ in Glasgow on Saturday to celebrate its outstanding achievements at the Games.

The controversy surfaced after Lovlina, a silver medalist from Assam, noticed that the restaurant's napkins and displays had a map of India that in fact excluded the Northeast.

Lovlina’s clip is going viral on social media, in which she says, "Please don't take this the wrong way. I felt a little hurt by this. In the map of India, our North East is missing. Yes, even outside, the map that's displayed has cut off the North East. As someone from the North East, that really hurts us. That's all I wanted to say. Please keep this in mind next time. Thank you so much."

The restaurant is a popular Indian dining destination in Glasgow and has hosted several visiting sports teams and dignitaries over the years.
