Asian Games: Indian women's compound archery team wins gold medal; beats China in final

India's women compound archery team, led by Chikitha Taniparthi, Prithika Pradeep and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, won a gold medal at Asian games after defeating China during the finals.

Indian archers were clinical in the title clash against China, beating them 238-234. India maintained their lead from the first rotation, giving Jyothi her fourth Asian Games gold and a first Asiad gold medal to Chikitha and Prithika on their debuts.

Indian players equalled South Korea's world record of 238, set in 2014, to secure the gold.


Jyothi, Prithika and Chikitha led China 119-116 at the halfway stage of the women’s compound team gold medal final match.

After taking a 30-28 lead in the opening end, the Indian players extended their advantage to three points despite Chikitha shooting a nine in the first rotation of the second end. Prithika and Jyothi continued to perform upbeat, both finding 10s throughout.

The Indian women's compound team had won the gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

India entered the finals against China after beating South Korea by 235-233, the barest of margins.

While South Korean players piled up pressure in the second half of the match and levelled the scores at 175-all, the Indians first took a one-point lead, and then two 10s from Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep and a nine from Jyothi Surekha Vennam helped India seal a two-point win.

Asian Games 2026 medal tally

With the latest addition to the medal tally, India now stands at the 10th spot on the chart with China and Japan leading the show.
