Asian Games 2026 Day 11: India chase medals, Olympic qualification in archery, hockey

India will have several medal and LA 2028 Olympic qualification opportunities at the Asian Games on Wednesday, with compound archery, women’s hockey and shooting among the main events on a packed Day 11.

In compound archery, Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav will take on Thailand in the mixed team semi-final. The Asian Games champions in the event will secure an LA 2028 Olympics quota. India will also have medal opportunities in the men's and women's compound team events.

The women's hockey team will face South Korea in the semi-final. A victory will take India a step closer to securing direct qualification for the LA 2028 Olympics.

Archery will begin the day's medal action for India, with Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Prithika Pradeep and Chikitha Taniparthi facing South Korea in the women's team semi-final at 5:55 AM. The bronze and gold medal matches will follow later if India advances.

Taniparthi and Jadhav will face Thailand in the compound mixed team semi-final at 7:55 AM, with the medal matches scheduled later. Jadhav, Ganesh MRatnam Thirumuru and Kushal Dalal will then take on South Korea in the men's team semi-final at 10:55 AM.

In shooting, Asian Games gold medallist Neeru Dhanda returns to competition in the mixed team trap qualification with Kynan Chenai at 6:30 AM. The final is scheduled for 11:00 AM if the Indian pair qualifies. Anish Bhanwala will compete in the men's 25m rapid fire pistol qualification from 6:10 AM.

Boxing will also offer India three opportunities to progress to the gold medal bouts. Priya Ghanghas faces China's Yang Chengyu in the women's 60kg semi-final at 10:15 AM, followed by Lovlina Borgohain against Kazakhstan's Natalya Bogdanova in the women's 75kg semi-final at 10:45 AM. Kapil Pokhariya will meet Uzbekistan's Turabek Khabibullaev in the men's 90kg semi-final at 12:00 PM.

The Indian women's hockey team takes on South Korea in the semi-final at 3:30 PM. A win would keep India's hopes of securing a direct LA 2028 Olympics qualification spot alive.

India's wrestling campaign also begins on Wednesday. Nisha Dahiya will compete in the women's 68kg opening round against DPR Korea's Pak Sol Gum at 7:00 AM. Asian Games medallist Sunil Kumar will compete in the men's Greco-Roman 87kg event, with medal matches scheduled later if the Indians progress.

In squash, India's women's team of Anahat Singh, Joshna Chinappa, Tanvi Khanna and Shameena Riaz will meet Singapore in the quarter-finals at 6:30 AM. The men's team of Abhay Singh, Veer Chotrani, Velavan Senthilkumar and Suraj Kumar Chand faces Kuwait at 11:00 AM.

Tennis will see Sumit Nagal and Dhakshineswar Suresh compete in the men's singles third round. Indian pairs will also feature in the men's doubles quarter-finals, with Anirudh Chandrasekar and N Sriram Balaji taking on China's Jiang Fumin and Zhang Tianhui, while Yuki Bhambri and Dhakshineswar Suresh face Chinese Taipei's Ho Chenjui and Hsu Yu-hsiou. Bhambri and Rutuja Bhosale will compete in the mixed doubles third round.

In canoe slalom, Pradhyumna Singh Rathod, Hitesh Kewat, Rina Sen and Pallavi Jagtap will compete in the semi-finals.

Asmita Dey begins India's judo campaign in the women's 48kg event. Sarita Kumari and Keerthi Rangaswamy Chikka will feature in track cycling, while Joga Purty will compete in sport climbing.

India will also be represented in golf and sailing, while its League of Legends esports team will face Hong Kong China, South Korea and Chinese Taipei in Group B matches.

With medal opportunities spread across multiple disciplines and Olympic qualification at stake in archery and hockey, Wednesday promises to be one of India's busiest days of the Asian Games.
