Olympics 2024: "Honour of my lifetime", says Manu Bhaker on being flag bearer for closing ceremony

Double bronze medal winning shooter Manu Bhaker and bronze winning Indian men's hockey player PR Sreejesh were India's flag bearers for the closing ceremony of Paris Olympics 2024 on Sunday.


The 22-year-old shooter termed the opportunity as the "honour of a lifetime". On social media platform X, she tweeted, "Proud to be India's flag-bearer alongside one of the nation's true sporting heroes @16Sreejesh ! Jai Hind".



Sreejesh, who retired on a high, termed that the bearing the flag at the ceremony was a "cherry on the cake" to a glorious career that spanned 18 years. He also tweeted a picture with Bhaker holding the tricolour.
Bhaker won a bronze medal in women's 10 m air pistol event and the mixed team 10 m air pistol even along with Sarbjot Singh. She missed a third medal by a whisker when she finished 4th in the women's 25 m air rifle event.

India men's hockey team goalkeeper has been a legend of the sport and has represented the country for 18 years. He won back-to-back bronze medals in Tokyo Olympics 2020 and Paris Olympics 2024.


India finished 71st on the medal tally with one silver medal and five bronze medals.

Neeraj Ch0pra's throw of 89.45 m secured India's only silver. Along with Manu Bhaker's and Indian hockey team's heroics, shooter Swapnil Kusale and Aman Sehrwat brought home bronze medals.

The United States finished as the top team of the Olympics with 40 golds, 44 silvers, and 42 bronze medals. They were followed by China, who also won 40 golds, but finished with 27 silvers and 24 bronze medals.
