“We haven’t taken a call on which three Tests Jasprit Bumrah will play,” Gambhir said.
Gambhir also stressed that player evaluations would not be based on short-term performances. “We will not judge anyone on the basis of one or two Tests. This is a team that’s building toward consistency and long-term success,” he stated.
Jasprit Bumrah, India’s premier fast bowler, has been at the center of discussions regarding his involvement in the upcoming Test series, especially after stepping aside from the race for Test captaincy due to workload management concerns.
His availability for all five Tests against England has been under scrutiny, with reports suggesting he may be fielded in only three or four matches to safeguard his long-term fitness.
Despite these constraints, Bumrah remains a vital asset to the team, having recently become the second-fastest Indian bowler to reach 200 wickets in Test cricket—a testament to his impact and consistency in the format.
The five-match Test series is expected to be a critical test of both strategy and depth for India, with careful workload management set to play a key role in navigating the grueling schedule.
