Jan 18 (The Sports Xchange) - Defenseman Jonas Brodin of the Minnesota Wild is expected to be sidelined a minimum of four weeks because of a fractured finger, general manager Chuck Fletcher said Wednesday.

Brodin, who has played in all 43 of Minnesota's games this season, sustained the injury in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils.

New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider was fined $5,000 for hitting Dallas Stars forward Cody Eakin with a helmet during a fight, the NHL's Department of Player Safety announced.

The incident occurred at 1:52 of the second period during the Stars' 7-6 win over the Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night. During the fight, Kreider got a hold of Eakin's helmet and started beating him on the head with it.

The Anaheim Ducks reassigned forward Stefan Noesen and defenseman Shea Theodore to the San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League.

Noesen, 23, has six goals, nine assists and 40 penalty minutes in 22 games with San Diego this season. He has one goal and two penalty minutes in nine games with the Ducks. He was picked by Ottawa in the first round of the 2011 NHL draft. (Editing by Frank Pingue)
