New owners take over HIL's Mumbai franchise

The development comes amid reports that Ranchi Rhinos will be pulling out of the event, owing to financial reasons.

NEW DELHI: In a boost to the troubled Hockey India League, their Mumbai franchise, which was abandoned by the Dabur group recently, has now been taken up by DoIT Sports Management, making it the sixth team in the event to be held in January-February.

"Hockey India League today announced that the New Mumbai franchise would be taken up by DoIT Sports Management (India) Pvt. Ltd., making it the sixth franchise that will compete in the prestigious international event to be held every year in January-February," HIL said in a statement.

The development comes amid reports that Ranchi Rhinos will be pulling out of the event, owing to financial reasons.

"We welcome DoIT Sports Management on board the Hockey India League. As they already have immense knowledge in the sports arena, we are confident that will have a positive impact on this season's Hockey India League. They are a new company with exciting new ideas for the region and are looking at contributing towards the development and growth of Hockey in the country," said Hockey India Secretary-General and HIL Chairman Dr Narinder Batra.

DoIT Sports Management was incorporated as part of DoIT Creations Group which was founded by Radha Kapoor, a creative entrepreneur promoting creative and innovative new sunrise opportunities focused on entrepreneurship.

The Sports Management Group marked its foray in sports with the ownership of the Delhi Franchise of the Pro Kabaddi League -- Dabang Delhi.
