BHUBANESWAR: Four members of India's under-14 girl's football team hailing from Odisha, today returned to the state after being rescued from earthquake hit Nepal.

The four Odia footballers who were stranded in Nepal were Janaki Murmu, Iva Panna, Banya Kabiraj and Shanti Murmu. The four players arrived at Biju Patnaik International airport here this afternoon.

"We were scared after experiencing the tremor. This is for the first time we faced such a situation," said Janaki Murmu, adding that they were taken care of by the authorities.

The team members were told not to stay inside rooms at night and instead take rest in lobby due to several aftershocks, said Iva Panna.

The 19-member squad had returned to Delhi yesterday from the earthquake-affected Kathmandu.

Union External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj had tweeted that the government had prioritised the evacuation of the team.
