My role in BCCI is that of a night-watchman, says Vinod Rai

The Supreme Court today appointed a four-member committee of administrators to run the affairs of the BCCI and implement the court-approved recommendations

My role in BCCI is that of a night-watchman, says Vinod Rai
Former comptroller and auditor general (CAG) of India Vinod Rai told ET that he sees his new role only as a night watchman, a lower-order batsman who comes higher up the order toward the end of day’s play.

"I see my role only as a night watchman because my job will be to ensure a smooth transition, putting in place good systems in a circle to an elected body in the nearest possible time," he said, adding that it was a great honour to be picked by the Supreme Court.

Rai also heads the Banks Board Bureau, which besides selecting bank heads also helps lenders in their capital-raising plans and in developing business strategies. Rai said he followed cricket keenly.

"Yesterday, I was biting my nails off in the last over," he said, referring to the T20 match played between India and England on Sunday at Nagpur, which the home team won in the last over. "I would like to see the game of cricket being administered properly for everyone — the players, the clients and spectators."

When asked if the reins of BCCI should be handed over to players, Rai said, "All that is too early for me to say because I have no exposure to BCCI. I would like to learn more first."
