MS Dhoni reveals his leadership style ahead of CSK's IPL 2024 campaign

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face off against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the inaugural match of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) on March 22 in Chennai. Ahead of this highly anticipated encounter, CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni discussed the excitement of having players from diverse backgrounds in one team, making the IPL a captivating tournament and giving him the chance to familiarize himself with overseas players.

Reflecting on the 2008 CSK team, Dhoni highlighted the wealth of experience brought by renowned players like Matthew Hayden, Mike Hussey, Muttiah Muralitharan, Makhaya Ntini, and Jacob Oram. He emphasized the challenge of bringing together such a talented group and fostering camaraderie within the dressing room.

Dhoni stressed the importance of understanding each player individually as a leader, citing how familiarity with their strengths and weaknesses facilitates cohesive teamwork. With five IPL titles under his captaincy, Dhoni's leadership philosophy has proven successful.


The IPL, according to Dhoni, provided a unique opportunity to interact with foreign players, offering insights into their cricketing perspectives and cultural backgrounds. He noted that such exchanges made the IPL exceptionally enriching.

Unlike in international matches, where communication with opposing players is limited, the IPL fosters a more open environment for interaction and learning, Dhoni observed.

As the IPL 2024 approaches, Dhoni joined the Chennai Super Kings' preparatory camp in Chennai on Tuesday, gearing up for the upcoming season. Despite recovering from a knee injury that affected his performance in the previous IPL, Dhoni remains committed to leading his team.



Looking ahead to the new season, Dhoni hinted at a potential new role, expressing his anticipation for the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Unfortunately, CSK faced an early setback with opener Devon Conway undergoing thumb surgery and likely to miss the initial matches of the tournament.
