Meet Sam Konstas, the teenager set to become Australia's youngest ever Test opener

Australia have announced that teenager Sam Konstas will replace Nathan McSweeney in the fourth Test of the ongoing five-match series against India. The 19-year-old is set to become the youngest-ever Australian opener when he makes his debut on Thursday.

Sam Konstas represented Australia U19 in the World Cup and played a key role in the team's championship run, scoring scoring 191 runs in seven innings at an average of 27.28, including a century.


Konstas was selected for Australia A in their series against India A in October-November. In the second unofficial Test, he played a crucial role with an unbeaten 73 in the second innings, helping secure a victory for his team.


The opener also featured for the Prime Minister’s XI in the pink-ball warm-up match against India at Manuka Oval. He scored a blistering 107 off 97 balls, including 14 fours and a six, against a an Indian bowling attack featuring Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja. This performance further solidified his reputation as a rising star in Australian cricket.


In the ongoing Sheffield Shield season, Konstas is the fifth-highest run-getter with 471 runs in five matches at an average of 58.87, including two centuries and a fifty, with a best score of 152.

Konstas debuted for the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League this earlier this month. Opening alongside David Warner, he smashed a blistering 57 off 26 balls, marking the fastest half-century in Sydney Thunder’s history.
