IPL auction 2025: Rishabh Pant becomes most expensive buy at Rs 27 cr, Iyer fetches Rs 26.75 cr deal
Lucknow Super Giants bought Rishabh Pant for Rs 27 crore, creating the record for the most expensive buy in the history of the tournament. Minutes after Shreyas Iyer was sold for Rs 26.75 crore to Punjab Kings, LSG made the highest bid for the Indian wicket-keeper batter.

The franchise also bought Indian pacer Avesh Khan for Rs 9.75 crore. They made bargain purchases with South Africa captain Aiden Markram and Australia all-rounder Mitchell Marsh.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), one of the two new franchises introduced in 2022, had a decent start as a franchise, when they finished fourth in 2022 and 2023, with Gautam Gambhir as the mentor and KL Rahul as their captain.

After letting go of Rahul, the franchise still retained five players, which included three bowlers and two middle-order batters.

However, the 2024 season did not go as Lucknow Super Giants might have liked. They finished seventh with seven wins and as many defeats in the 14 league matches. Four teams finished with 14 points, but LSG had the lowest net run rate.

Lucknow Super Giants suffered some heavy defeats in IPL 2024, the biggest and the most shocking being against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Defending 166, LSG lost by 10 wickets and within 10 overs. The post-match scenes were uglier when captain KL Rahul was seen in a heated discussion with owner Sanjiv Goenka.

The team, which was sitting pretty in the top four, never seemed to recover and lost their way in the backend of the tournament.
Subsequently, there were speculations of Rahul leaving the franchise, which turned out to be true on the day of the IPL retention announcements.
