Lewis Hamilton wins hectic Russian Grand Prix to register 100 race wins

On September 26, British Formula 1 driver, Lewis Hamilton won the Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi track and became the first to win 100 races in the sport, a record that had been waiting to be completed since July this year, when he won his 99th race at the Silverstone Grand Prix.

On Sunday, Hamilton’s chances of victory were not assured, with the 36-year-old starting at fourth on the grid, behind future teammate George Russell, but after it started raining on the 47th lap and race leader Lando Norris slipped up, Hamilton snapped up the lead to finish first.

With the win, Hamilton became the only driver to win in the triple digits, with former Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher the closest at 91 race wins. Hamilton is also the joint most successful driver, having won his seventh world championship, last year, to tie with Schumacher.

    Hamilton is also the driver with most pole positions in the history of the sport, at 101, while also holding the joint record for winning at the same track (having won the British GP and the Hungarian GP eight times each). He also holds the record for most podium finishes at 176.
