Jay Shah elected unopposed as International Cricket Council chairman

Shah, who was the sole nominee for the chairmanship after Barclay decided against seeking a third term, will assume charge as the ICC chairman on December 1, 2024.
At 35, he is the youngest ICC chairman.
Upon his election, Shah said he would expand the global reach and popularity of cricket. He also said that the inclusion of T20 cricket in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics marks a pivotal moment for the sport.

“I am committed to working closely with the ICC team and our member nations to further globalise cricket. We stand at a critical juncture where it is increasingly important to balance the coexistence of multiple formats, promote the adoption of advanced technologies, and introduce our marquee events to new global markets. Our goal is to make cricket more inclusive and popular than ever before," he said in a statement.
Shah joins the list of Indians who have led the ICC, including Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar.
Shah, who will complete his second term as BCCI secretary in October 2025, will have to undergo a mandatory three-year cooling-off period.
He has been serving as the BCCI Secretary since October 2019 and Chair of the Asian Cricket Council since January 2021.
