As the IPL Mega Auction was underway in Saudi Arabia's Jeddah, cricketer Shreyas Iyer broke historic auction records on Sunday as the most expensive player, only to be outdone by Rishabh Pant within minutes.

Pant and Iyer secured record-breaking deals at the 2024 auction, with both players bagging over $3 million. Iyer was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore, surpassing Mitchell Starc's $3 million deal from last year.

Pant, released by Delhi Capitals, sparked a fierce bidding war before Lucknow Super Giants secured him for Rs 27 crore. The 27-year-old, known for his explosive batting, is expected to captain Lucknow next season, after outbidding Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi.
