IPL Auction 2026: Cameron Green creates record in IPL Auction. KKR buys him
IPL Auction Biggest Buys: Cameron Green created record as he became the most-expensive overseas player ever in IPL after Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for Rs 25.20 crore. The record bid came after a fierce bidding war among KKR, CSK and RR at the IPL Auction, underlining just how valuable the Australian all-rounder remains in T20 cricket.

The moment Cameron Green’s name came up at the IPL Auction, three teams jumped in instantly, pushing the price higher within seconds. Mumbai Indians opened the bidding while Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals quickly jumped in. Mumbai Indians, which has just Rs 2.75 crore in the purse had to soon leave the bidding fight while KKR and Rajasthan Royals continued the fight.

Just when KKR looked to rope in Cameron Green at Rs 13.20 crore as Rajasthan Royals dropped out, Chennai Super Kings joined the bidding war and the auction price for Cameron Green kept soaring. Finally, KKR had the last laugh.

What followed was a heated contest that perfectly captured why Cameron Green is considered one of the most complete T20 players available this year.

KKR had entered the IPL auction with the biggest purse of Rs 64.3 crore. Close behind are Chennai Super Kings, armed with ₹43.4 crore.

For his new franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, Cameron Green is more than a marquee overseas pick as he is a three-dimensional cricketer who can change the tempo of a match with bat, ball or in the field. Cameron Green’s clean hitting at the top, his calm finishing ability and his knack for bowling difficult overs make him a rare asset in the IPL. Green has already built a reputation for stepping up in high-pressure situations, something teams value immensely in the IPL Auction, especially when squad roles are tight and impact-player rules reward multi-skill cricketers.

With the ball too, Cameron Green offers steady right-arm fast-medium overs, especially useful in the powerplay or just after it. His height allows him to extract bounce even on slower decks, creating pressure through dot balls and forcing batters into mistakes. In a long tournament like the IPL, where balance matters as much as brilliance, Cameron Green fits naturally into most team combinations.

Cameron Green has played 63 T20 matches and scored 1,334 runs in 57 innings, with a highest score of 100 not out. He averages 33.35 and strikes at 151.07, a rare blend of consistency and explosiveness. Along the way, he has smashed 111 boundaries and 63 sixes, showing just how dangerous he can be in the middle overs and at the death. These are the kind of numbers that make teams stretch their purse limits at every IPL Auction, because players with this level of proven T20 impact don’t come by often.

Interestingly, Cameron Green also made a very smart move before entering the IPL Auction this year. Even though he is a genuine pace-bowling all-rounder, he listed himself as a batter. That clever decision placed him in the first set of the IPL Auction, when IPL teams have their full purses and are willing to spend aggressively on elite top-order talent.

However, Cameron Green had clarified it was a mistake by his manager.
