Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has been a team that assembles strong players, filled with super stars year after year, but is yet to win an IPL trophy. They have been three-time runner ups in 2009, 2011, and 2016.

The team has used the most number of players in the history of IPL, but one player has remained a constant throughout the 17 years. Virat Kohli. The franchise has come into the auction with three Right to Match (RTM) cards and Rs 83 crore in the purse, which is the second highest.

Post the rollercoaster season, the franchise from Bengaluru is set for a major rejig as they retained only three players, all Indians. It was no surprise that the former Indian captain was retained by the franchise for the 18th season for Rs 21 crore, the highest paid Indian before going into the mega IPL auction.


Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal were retained for Rs 11 crore and Rs 5 crore respective. In the two-day event, the team bought 19 players, which included a mix of experienced players and uncapped buys.

To strengthen the batting, RCB bought Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma, Tim David, Jacob Bethell, and Devdutt Padikkal.

Further, it bought Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood and Rasikh Salam as their pacers. They also got Krunal Pandya, Suyash Sharma and Swapnil Singh to handle the spin department

Key players released

RCB released some of its key players who had performed well for them over the years or even in the 2024 season.

These include captain Faf du Plessis, ace pacer Mohammed Siraj, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and England all-rounder Will Jacks. Experienced wicket-keeper and finisher Dinesh Kartik announced his retirement after the conclusion of the previous season.
