Chennai Super Kings, the joint-most successful IPL franchise having won five IPL titles, narrowly missed out on a playoff spot in the most disappointing way last season.

In the auction, CSK bought several key players including Devon Conway (Rs 6.75 crore), Rahul Tripathi (Rs 3 crore), Rachin Ravindra (Rs 4 crore via RTM), Ravichandran Ashwin (Rs 9.75 crore), Khaleel Ahmed (Rs 4.8 crore), Noor Ahmed (Rs 10 crore), Vijay Shankar (Rs 1.2 crore), and Sam Curran (Rs 2.4 crore). Other purchases included Shaik Rasheed (Rs 30 lakh), Anshul Kamboj (Rs 3.4 crore), Deepak Hooda (Rs 1.7 crore), Gurjanpreet Singh (Rs 2.2 crore), Nathan Ellis (Rs 2 crore), and Kamlesh Nagarkoti (Rs 30 lakh), among others.

CSK have retained Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja for Rs 18 crore each, Matheesha Pathirana for Rs 13 crore, World Cup star Shivam Dube for Rs 12 crore and MS Dhoni for Rs 4 crore as an uncapped player.

CSK's 2024 outing

Although Dhoni had handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, he was behind the stumps, supporting the young leader as he steered the team into a new era.

Gaikwad proved that the responsibility of captaincy wouldn't affect his batting prowess, scoring four half-centuries and a century during the season. His stellar performances kept him in the race for the Orange Cap, as he remained one of the top run-scorers in the competition.
