IPL Auction 2024: Mitchell Starc overtakes Cummins, becomes most expensive buy ever with Rs 24.75 cr
Australian pacer Mitchell Starc bagged a massive Rs 24.75 crore record deal from Kolkata Knight Riders, breaking Pat Cummins' most expensive Indian Premier League buy record that lasted for just an hour.

KKR bought Starc in IPL Auction 2024, after a fierce bidding battle with Gujarat Titans.

Starc, 33, will return to the IPL after an eight-year absence, having previously played for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Starc and Cummins, who won the ODI Men's Cricket World Cup by beating India in Ahmedabad, had surpassed Sam Curran's record as the most expensive player in the league's history. Currans had bagged Rs 18.50 crore from Punjab Kings for IPL 2023.

Just moments before Starc's record IPL deal, his Australian teammate and skipper Pat Cummins had created history as he became the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League. Sunrisers Hyderabad bought him for a whopping Rs 20.50 crore.

All this year, Starc has been exuding confidence. He has already hoisted the trophies from the World Test Championship and the World Cup.

Throughout his 58 T20I matches, he has bagged 73 wickets at an economy rate of 7.63. Along with playing in 27 IPL games, he claimed 34 wickets at an economy of 7.16.

Besides Cummins, Sunrisers also grabbed World Cup final hero Travis Head for Rs 6.80 crore.

Harshal Patel, who was released by RCB ahead of the auction, remains a sought after player with Punjab Kings paying Rs 11.75 crore for the out of favour India pacer.

Daryl Mitchell, who also had a good ODI World Cup, had a massive payday with Chennai Super Kings spending Rs 14 crore for the New Zealand batter.
