IPL 2026 Orange Cap Winner List: Virat Kohli’s orange dream alive as race heads for dramatic finish
IPL 2026 Orange Cap race Holder: The IPL 2026 Orange Cap race is heating up with only a few matches remaining. Vaibhav Suryavanshi leads the charts, but Virat Kohli remains a strong contender. Gujarat Titans' Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill are als...

Rajasthan opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi currently leads the charts with 680 runs from 15 matches, followed closely by Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan on 652 and Heinrich Klaasen on 624. Gujarat skipper Shubman Gill sits fourth with 618, while Kohli is sixth with 600 runs.
But unlike several players above him, Kohli still has the disadvantage of playing only one more match, the final — a factor that could dramatically alter the standings.
What Virat Kohli needs
Kohli is currently 80 runs behind leader Suryavanshi. If Rajasthan are knocked out in Qualifier 2 and Suryavanshi does not add significantly to his tally, the race opens up sharply for Kohli and the Gujarat batters.
For Kohli to realistically win the Orange Cap:
* Kohli likely needs around 85-100 more runs across the remaining game depending on what Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill score.
* A big innings — something like a century or the final could push him right into contention.
Gujarat’s double threat
The biggest obstacle for Kohli may not be Rajasthan’s teenage sensation, but Gujarat’s batting machine.Sai Sudharsan has been remarkably consistent, averaging 46.57 with seven fifties, while Gill has quietly piled up 618 runs in just 14 matches.
With Gujarat guaranteed at least one more match — and possibly two — both remain favourites to finish near the top.
Klaasen and Ishan Kishan, both from Sunrisers Hyderabad, are already out of the tournament despite occupying top-five spots, effectively freezing their tallies.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s stunning season
The breakout story of the season remains Rajasthan Royals’ Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The young opener has smashed 680 runs at a staggering strike rate of 242.85 — by far the most explosive campaign among the leading run-scorers — including 65 sixes, the highest in the list.
Even if Rajasthan exit before the final, Suryavanshi’s tally could still prove difficult to chase down unless one of the remaining contenders produces a defining knock in the playoffs.
The final sprint
As the IPL heads into its closing leg, the Orange Cap race has effectively become a three-way battle between Suryavanshi, Sudharsan and Kohli, with Gill lurking close behind. And for Kohli, the equation is simple now: survive, score big, and take RCB home.
Because in a season dominated by fearless young batting, the tournament’s most iconic batter still has one final shot at finishing on top.
