As cricket fever keeps India in its grip, the Delhi Traffic Police has rolled out a detailed advisory ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) showdown between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, scheduled for Wednesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

A packed house is expected for the high-voltage encounter, and with thousands of fans set to throng the stadium, authorities have urged commuters to steer clear of the surrounding roads during match hours.

The advisory, issued on Tuesday, specifically warns of congestion around Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, and the Ring Road stretch near Rajghat between 4 pm and 11.30 pm.

“Traffic congestion is expected in the vicinity due to the arrival of spectators. People are advised to plan their travel accordingly and avoid routes around the stadium during match hours,” the advisory stated.

To ensure smooth flow, access will be restricted for vehicles without valid parking passes.

Only authorised vehicles will be permitted to park in the designated slots around the stadium premises. Police have advised spectators to rely on public transport, particularly the Delhi Metro, for a hassle-free commute.

The closest metro stations for fans heading to the match are Delhi Gate (Gate 4) and ITO (Gates 3 and 4), both on the Violet Line.

In a bid to reduce congestion further, restrictions have also been placed on heavy vehicles and buses. These will not be allowed to ply on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, and the Rajghat stretch of the Ring Road from Darya Ganj to Rajghat and from Guru Nanak Chowk to Delhi Gate between 4 pm and 11.30 pm.

With match day excitement building up, the advisory is part of the city’s wider effort to maintain order and ensure fan safety.

The Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals match promises to be a crowd-puller — and Delhi Police is hoping the city’s commuters and cricket lovers will play ball when it comes to road safety and traffic discipline.
