The upcoming 17th season of the Indian Premier League's (IPL) is likely to commence on March 22, five days after the conclusion of Women's Premier League (WPL), as per a report.

This year, there could be some changes in the IPL schedule as it is connected to the General Elections and this poses a big challenge for security agencies.

According to the Cricbuzz website, the BCCI is hoping to host the IPL in India only and looking for the window between March 22 and May 26 to conduct matches.

But the confirmation of the schedule could be made only after the announcement of election dates, Cricbuzz said.

If the March 22–May 26 schedule is approved, the Indian squad will have just five days to prepare for the T20 World Cup in the US and the Caribbean, which starts on June 2. However, the first game between India and Ireland is set for June 5.

The Cricbuzz report further added that "the BCCI has received assurances from most cricket boards that their players will be available until the (IPL) final".
