IPL 2024 likely to allow two bouncers per over: Report

In relief to fast bowlers, they will now have the liberty to deliver an extra bouncer per over in the upcoming IPL 2024, sources reveal to TOI. The move aims to address concerns regarding the growing dominance of batsmen and ensure a more balanced...

Fans are all charged up as the mini-auction where the 10 teams used all their might to buy the players ended and there is little time left for the tournament to begin next year.

But, for now, good news has arrived for fast bowlers who are part of IPL 2024. It is expected that a new rule could be introduced that will allow two bouncers per over, reported ToI. This means that they can bowl two instead of one every over in the upcoming tournament.

The decision to introduce the said rule was conveyed to the 10 franchises at a meeting conducted by IPL COO Hemang Amin in Dubai on Monday, a day before the auction.

The new rule has been applied to make it an even contest between both bat and ball as past tournaments observed dominance from the batting side. Recently, it was experimented during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

No change in impact player rule:
The Impact player rule, which allows a team to replace a batter or a bowler at any time of the match is expected to remain the same. The rule provides the franchises with the flexibility to substitute a player from the playing eleven with one of the five substitutes named during the toss, providing teams with added depth in either batting or bowling during the course of the match.

However, not everyone is a fan of the rule. former Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer believes that IPL should eliminate the 'Impact Player' rule, stating that this rule is discouraging all-rounders from bowling, which he sees as a significant concern for the development of Indian cricket.
