International cricket should return to Kashmir: Charu Sharma
SRINAGAR: Renowned commentator Charu Sharma feels international cricket should return to Kashmir and the valley's infrastructure should be improved for it.

"I came here in 1983 for the West Indies-India game (one of two international matches played in Kashmir) but unfortunately nothing substantial has happened here since," Sharma said at the launch of Police Public Cricket Premier League (PPCPL) here last evening.

Sharma said the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in the heart of the city was one of the most beautiful grounds around the world with spectator stands under the shade of majestic Chinar trees.

"International matches should be held here again. May be there is need for setting up new facilities and improving this stadium, for which the work is going on," he said.

"This PPCPL is something unique and I have heard of such a thing for the first time but it is going to be good for the game of cricket in Kashmir.

"Like Rome was not built in a day, cricket in Kashmir will not come in one day. However, such initiatives will surely put the cricket in the valley on right track," he said adding "such events will help the players to hone their skills".
