Indian Men's, Women's 4x400m relay teams qualify for Paris Olympics

The Indian men's and women's 4x400m relay teams have secured a spot at the Paris Olympics after their impressive performances at the World Athletics Relays. The women's team, comprising Rupal Chaudhary, M R Poovamma, Jyothika Sri Dandi, and Subha Venkatesan, finished second in their second-round heat with a time of 3 minutes and 29.35 seconds, behind Jamaica.

Similarly, the men's team, including Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Muhammed Ajmal, Arokia Rajiv, and Amoj Jacob, also finished second in their heat with a collective timing of 3 minutes and 3.23 seconds, trailing the USA.

Qualification Process

The top two teams from each of the three heats in the second round were to qualify for the Olympics, scheduled from July 26 to August 11. This achievement adds to India's tally of track and field athletes heading to Paris, which now stands at 19, including the likes of Neeraj Chopra, the reigning javelin throw champion.

Previous Performances
Earlier, the Indian women's team had finished fifth in the first-round qualifying heat, while the men's team had faced a setback as one of their runners had to pull out midway due to cramps.

The athletics events at the Paris Olympics are set to commence on August 1.
