Highlights

  1. It was Kohli’s sixth ODI century this year, cementing his position as the top ton-getter in 2018.
  2. Kohli became the first Indian batsman, and 10th overall, to score three consecutive ODI hundreds.
  3. Kohli became the first captain to score four hundreds in four successive innings in ODIs at home.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli continued his imperious run, scoring 107 on Saturday against the West Indies to become the first Indian cricketer, and the first captain of any country, to hit three consecutive ODI centuries.

It was Kohli’s sixth ODI century this year, cementing his position as the top ton-getter in 2018 (England’s Jonny Bairstow and Rohit Sharma have 4 each). He also has the most runs (1,153) and the highest average (144) for the year so far.

However, Kohli’s heroics went in vain as India folded up for 240 to lose the match by 43 runs. The series is now tied 1-1, with two matches left.

Interestingly, Kohli is the 10th player in the history of the game to get three straight ODI centuries. So far, only one batsman, Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, has gone on to make four tons in a row.

Kohli's first
  • First captain to score three consecutive hundreds in ODIs (140 in Guwahati, in Visakhapatnam and 107 in Pune, all against West Indies)
  • First Indian batsman, and 10th overall, to score three consecutive ODI hundreds. Kumar Sangakkara holds the record with 4 ODI centuries on the trot in the 2015 World Cup.
  • First Indian batsman, and second overall, to score four consecutive ODI hundreds at home. Kohli scored a hundred (113 vs New Zealand in Kanpur on Oct 29, 2017) in his last appearance in ODIs at home before the commencement of the India-West Indies series. The first is AB de Villiers (114 not out & 102 not out vs India; 107 not out vs West Indies & 134 vs Netherlands between Feb 2010 and March 2011; all in India).
  • First captain to score four hundreds in four successive innings in ODIs at home
