Team India booked their place in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final after defeating England in the semi-final and will now take on New Zealand in the title clash on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

However, the venue brings mixed memories for Indian fans, as it was also the site of their heartbreaking defeat in the 2023 ODI World Cup final. As the team prepares for the summit clash, a closer look at India’s record at the world’s largest cricket stadium offers an interesting perspective.

India have played 10 matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium, winning seven and losing three since 2021. During this period, the Men in Blue have registered several notable victories, including convincing wins against England, the Netherlands, South Africa and New Zealand.

One of the most dominant performances came in 2023 when India crushed New Zealand by a massive 168-run margin, highlighting their ability to perform strongly at this venue. India also enjoyed a successful run during the 2021 home series against England in Ahmedabad, winning three of the five matches played there.

More recently, results at the stadium have been mixed against top opposition. While India recorded a solid 30-run win over South Africa in late 2025, the Proteas bounced back in their T20 World Cup meeting in February, handing the hosts a heavy 72-run defeat and denting India’s momentum in the tournament.

As a result, India have played two matches at the venue in this edition of the T20 World Cup, winning one and losing one.

Despite being the hosts and defending champions, India may enter Sunday’s final as slight favourites given their strong overall record at the venue. However, New Zealand hold a psychological edge, having never lost to India in the history of the T20 World Cup.

So far, six matches have been played at the Narendra Modi Stadium during the 2026 T20 World Cup. Teams batting first have won three matches, while chasing sides have claimed two victories, with one game ending in a tie—suggesting that the venue has produced closely fought contests throughout the tournament.
